The Language Institute was born from a team experienced in language teaching and educational psychology, with a clear vision: to teach languages with rigour, proximity and attention to each learner’s individuality.
Since 2009
The Language Institute
The Language Institute (IL) was founded in 2009 by a team of professionals in language teaching and educational psychology. Led by Andreia Jardim, this team was also behind — as co-founder and co-owner — the first educational project in Madeira dedicated to teaching languages to children aged 3 to 5 in a franchising system.
That means we have been teaching English for more than 20 years.
Origin
A new pedagogical structure
Due to the limitations of development and expansion of that initial project, especially regarding progression to more advanced levels, it became necessary to create a new pedagogical structure from the ground up, with its own curricular and methodological tools.
European reference
Curriculum aligned with the CEFR
The IL curriculum is framed by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, ensuring full alignment with competence profiles recognised across Europe.
This helps our students meet high standards in communicative and linguistic competence.
What makes us different?
Educational personalism
What we call “educational personalism” is based on absolute respect for the unique personality of each student. We establish a personalised and differentiated relationship with each learner, identifying preferences and encouraging creativity, while always respecting the need to act within a group context.
Method
More than transmitting knowledge
Foreign language teachers often do not achieve the best results because of a systematic and almost mechanised generalisation of the teaching-learning process, teaching all students in the same way.
At IL, we aim for more than simply transmitting linguistic knowledge: we create conditions that support a permanent state of motivation for learning.
Individual learning
Differentiated methodologies
When motivation is combined with differentiated methodologies focused on each student’s individual characteristics, it becomes a reliable path to high-quality results.
Because students process information in different ways, our teaching method favours a plural and diverse approach to each learner’s style.
Educational project
Skills beyond languages
The Language Institute’s educational project for children and young people serves purposes beyond solid foreign language teaching. Transversal skills are part of the current curriculum.
- Developing the ability to interact appropriately in groups.
- Communicating with self-confidence in front of groups.
- Maintaining a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
- Managing time between work and leisure appropriately.
- Solving problems creatively.
- Learning to give and accept criticism.
- Spontaneously valuing teamwork.
